Information For Puppy Buyers

When you add a Sunryz Golden Retriever puppy to your family, you become part of our Sunryz family. We like to keep you updated and informed about the puppies as they grow, and we encourage you to stay in touch after you have taken your puppy home so that we can see how your new family member grows, and the adventures they get to join you on.

Below are some frequently asked questions to give you some information about the process that we follow when we are allocating our puppies to their new forever homes. Our priority is our puppies, and while we do our best to cater for your requests as a buyer, we must always put the welfare and happiness of our puppies foremost.

We hope the below information answers all of your questions, but if you require any further information, please don't hesitate to Contact Us

At Sunryz Kennels, we are proud to strive for the advancement of the Golden Retriever breed. This means that we will do all we can to produce sound and healthy puppies, that are an excellent example of the breed.

We are an ANKC registered breeder with Dogs NSW (member #2100063768) and a member of the Golden Retriever Club of NSW.

A beautiful, confident and happy temperament is of utmost importance to us, so that our Golden Retrievers can adjust to their surroundings, and be the beautiful, happy dog that the breed is so well known for.

We carry out extensive health testing on our breeding dogs to ensure the best possible chance of all puppies living a healthy long life with their forever families.

The testing that we carry out includes:

  • Hip x-ray and scoring using the CHEDS system
  • Elbow x-ray and scoring using the CHEDS system
  • Annual eye certification using the ACES system
  • Heart ausculation by a veterinary cardiologist
  • Full DNA panel of tests, including (but not limited to)
    • Degenerative Myelopathy
    • GR PRA 1
    • GR PRA 2
    • Ichthyosis

More Information

The first step to adding a Sunryz Golden Retriever puppy to your family, is by expressing your interest via our Puppy Inquiry form.

While this may seem like lots of questions to ask you, try to give as much information as you are comfortable sharing with us. Your answers to these questions are our initial assessment as to whether we believe your home may be a suitable match for one of our puppies.

The puppy inquiry form does not guarantee you a puppy, and it is not a "waiting list". It is simply an expression of interest in one of our puppies.

When we have a litter due, we will reassess all puppy inquiry forms and contact those that we believe may be the most suitable to offer a Sunryz puppy a forever-home. We will give you a call for a chat and if we are in agreeance that a Sunryz puppy is a good fit, we will take a deposit from you when the puppies are 2 weeks old to guarantee you a puppy from the litter.

When the puppies are 6 weeks old, we will offer a "meet and greet" so that you can come and meet the puppies, and their mother, and see how you connect with the puppies. We may have more questions about your lifestyle and your plans for the puppy, so that we can get an idea of what sort of temperament your new puppy will need to fit in to your life. To read more about how and why we allocate puppies, please read the below point on "Will I get to choose my puppy".

When we breed a litter, we breed to add to our show team and breeding program. This means that we will assess the puppies to see which of the litter is the most suited to stay with us. This is generally done when the puppies are between 6 and 8 weeks old.

For this reason, we often cannot allocate you a puppy until this decision has been made. Occasionally, this can be sooner (ie - if we are after a specific gender, that happens to be different to your preference, then this decision can be made much earlier).

We will never allocate a puppy until we have had a meet and greet with all potential puppy owners. This is so that we can discuss what your lifestyle looks like, and help you match the most suitable puppy to your home.

When you meet the puppies, generally we will ask that you choose 2 or 3 preferences, and we will do our best to allocate you the puppy of your choice once we have picked our show puppy. However, please keep in mind that we know the puppies' personalities best as we have spent hundreds of hours with them, and will guide you as to which puppies are best suited to your lifestyle.

We will update all potential puppy owners via email as they grow. We will post photos at least weekly in an album on our website, which can be found in the Photo Gallery page, and also on our Facebook & Instagram pages. We will also do live video on our Facebook page on occasion, so be sure to follow us!

Puppies will leave Sunryz Kennels no earlier than 8 weeks of age. When we offer you a puppy, we will provide you with a pick-up date for you to plan ahead.

Occasionally, puppies may need to stay for a little longer under different circumstances (eg - if a puppy is flying interstate etc).

When you take home your puppy, we will provide you with a puppy pack that will include all sorts of goodies to help your puppy settle in to his new home, and lots of information for you to help with the care of your new family member.

Puppy packs will vary from litter to litter, but will always include:

  • Lifetime breeder support. As your puppy's breeder, we would love for you to stay in touch with us, and you are welcome to ask us any questions or request advice at any time. If we don't know the answer, we will do our best to find out for you.
  • ANKC Limited Pedigree Registration. This gives the full parentage of your puppy and is supplied by Dogs NSW. The limited registration is for non showing and breeding dogs, and this is what all of our puppies are supplied with.
  • 8 Weeks Knose Pet Insurance to take away that new puppy stress while they settle into your family. You can choose to continue this insurance after this initial period (which we recommend) and will have the ability to alter the policy to suit your needs.
  • Parents Health Information to show you the healthy and sound parentage of your puppy.
  • A Voucher For a FREE bag of Royal Canin Puppy Food so that you can continue the same balanced diet at your home, that your puppy has been introduced to in ours. As a Royal Canin breeder, you will be supplied with a voucher for a FREE bag of Royal Canin Puppy Food PLUS discount vouchers for the following few bags as well!
  • Lyka Fresh Food Samples for puppies that are picked up only, as these are frozen meat packs
  • Lyka Discount Voucher so that you can continue to feed your puppy as we have here, to ensure they have the best start to life.
  • tmp-6l.uploadA Puppy Toy or Blanket That Has Been Shared with the Litter This will smell like your puppy's litter, and will be a comfort to your puppy in the initial days of your puppy coming home.
