What is a Guardian Home?
At Sunryz Kennels, our goal is to produce exceptional Golden Retrievers that elevate the breed as a whole. To achieve this while ensuring every dog receives the individual attention and loving home they deserve, we will utilise a Guardian Home Program.
We will occasionally place our most promising, superior-quality puppies with approved local families. This ensures the dog lives their best life as a cherished family member while remaining an integral part of our successful breeding program.
You will become part of the Sunryz Family, and we welcome you to get involved in the showing and puppy socialising process with us!
In recognition of your commitment, the adoption fee for these special puppies is typically reduced or waived.

The Guardian Home agreement outlines the responsibilities of both parties. Key provisions usually include:
-
The puppy will live with the guardian family as a full-time, permanent family member.
-
Sunryz Kennels covers all costs for full, specialised health testing (carried out around 12 months of age).
-
If health clearances are excellent and the dog is approved for breeding, they will return to us for breeding purposes: whelping (females, typically for two litters, which is negotiable) or collection (males).
-
All breeding responsibilities, costs, litter rearing, and puppy placement are managed and financed entirely by Sunryz Kennels.
-
We may seek to show the dog at conformation events, with all showing expenses covered by Sunryz Kennels, pending your agreement.
If you would like to be considered for this unique opportunity, please indicate your interest in becoming a guardian on your puppy inquiry form.
In order to be a guardian, we have some basic criteria that need to be met so that the arrangement is mutually beneficial for both parties. Before applying to be a guardian, please check that you fit the criteria below:
- Guardian homes must be within 50km radius of Kitchener NSW 2325.
- Exceptions to the above may be considered if the home is willing to travel to meet us with the dog when showing or breeding is required.
- Due to requirements for litter registrations for any resulting litters bred, the puppy's Dogs NSW pedigree papers will remain in the name of Sunryz Kennels until the dog has completed his/her breeding requirements. Once this is fulfilled, a transfer of ownership will be provided to the guardian.
- The puppy's microchip will be transferred to the guardian home from the date of collection of the puppy.
- Vaccinations, health care and general maintenance are the responsibility of the guardian home.
- The guardian agrees to feed a quality diet and keep the dog in healthy condition at all times.
- The guardian is responsible for training and socialising the puppy to ensure a well-balanced, confident adult.
- Great communication and trust between both parties is required in order to make this arrangement work. The guardian agrees to be open and honest and communicate regularly with the breeder about the dog.
- The dog will be bred with and possibly shown by the breeder. We welcome the guardian to get involved in both of these processes and enjoy the fun of the show ring and the joy of raising puppies with the breeder.
- At the completion of the contract, the dog will be owned solely by the guardian at no cost.
